Regional ABVV action in Ghent on Thursday, February 5, 2026

Submitted by ACOD UGent on wo, 02/04/2026 - 15:26

In the run-up to the national demonstration of March 12, 2026, a regional ABVV action will take place in Ghent on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

We therefore call on everyone who can to come together at 9:30 am in Ons Huis (ABVV East Flanders), Vrijdagmarkt, Ghent and/or at 10.30 a.m. directly at the Kouter in Ghent (see below).

Why this action?

The measure is full. The government continues to attack our purchasing power and social protection. This policy of destruction must stop!

Employees want progress, not more regression.

That is why we will be on the streets on February 5:

  • because employees want to move forward,
  • because the current measures lead to declining purchasing power,
  • because our social protection is being increasingly reduced,
  • and because it is time to make it clear that we will not tolerate this any longer.

The action of February 5 is part of the broader social resistance that ABVV is waging against the so-called "Arizona government", which will again implement heavy cuts in 2026 that will mainly affect employees. This has to stop and it will only work if we, the people on the work floor, make our voices heard clearly and visibly.

Practical

We start the day at 9:30 am in Ons Huis (ABVV East Flanders) on Vrijdagmarkt in Ghent with coffee and a pastry. We will then leave together at around 10 am towards the Kouter, where the concentration will take place at 10:30 am.

You can also come directly to the Kouter at 10:30 am.

A strike notice was submitted for this day to give all UGent staff members the opportunity to participate in this action.

Did you - as an ACOD member - participate in this campaign and did UGent withhold your salary for this day? Then send us your pay slip on which this wage deduction has been made by email to ACOD@UGent.be so that we can do the necessary to pay out a strike compensation.

Registering for this action can be don through this link (Dutch only) (to enable the organizers to estimate the amount of coffee and breakfast needed at the Vrijdagmarkt)
