ACOD calls on everyone to participate in the next trade union day of action against the federal government measures on Tuesday, April 29, 2025

Submitted by ACOD UGent on zo, 04/27/2025 - 14:08

The strike day of March 31 was a clear signal to the government that we will not simply accept their agreement. A big thank you to everyone who took action!

With the recent Easter agreement and the drafting of the so-called program law, previous plans are now also being converted into laws and Royal Decrees. The government persists in its unacceptable approach and does not consult with trade unions and civil society.

The lie that social security needs to be cut and that we all need to work longer and more flexibly is becoming clearer every day. In the meantime, they no longer look for money where it is and hardly talk about a tax on the big financial gains. What's more, in just a few weeks it was decided to invest 4 billion in the military industry. Incomprehensible!

Continued resistance to increase pressure on this government is therefore a necessary response!

That is why we call on everyone to participate in the manifestations organized on that day in various cities

Specifically in East Flanders, a demonstration will take place on that day in Ghent, in common front with the ACV. Civil society, under the banner of “samen in verzet" (together in resistance) and students in Ghent will also participate and call for the demonstration. This demonstration starts at the Korenlei at 10:45 am and ends at the Vrijdagmarkt with a closing speech.

ACOD UGent calls on as many people as possible to participate in this demonstration!

Practical arrangements

A strike notice applies to all employees at Ghent University to give everyone the opportunity to participate in the demonstration in Ghent and in the other trade union actions taking place on that day.

Members of ACOD who are on strike can apply for strike compensation if Ghent University has withheld your wages for that day. For this purpose, you can send us the pay slip on which the deduction of wages due to strike is charged. You can send this by email to ACOD@UGent.be. The strike compensation for a full day's loss of wages is 40 euros.

The demonstration in Ghent will start at 10:45 am at the Korenlei, and will end around 12 noon at the Vrijdagmarkt.

More information about the actions taking place on this day at other locations can be found via this link (in Dutch).

Are you coming to the demonstration in Ghent? Be sure to let us know at ACOD@UGent.be so that we can make further arrangements and form a joint delegation within the demonstration.
