On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the three trade unions will organize a strike in a common front within the entire public sector. Subsequently, on Wednesday 26 November 2025, there will be a general national strike across all sectors.
General strike in the public sector on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 against cuts in public services and staff
Our public services are the foundation of a society based on solidarity. But it is under pressure. Care, education, security, mobility, social protection — these are not luxury products, but rights. Rights that are only guaranteed if we invest in our public services.
Because public services:
- are ensuring equal opportunities and solidarity,
- provide decent jobs and good working conditions, protect us from demolition and privatization,
- contribute to a sustainable future.
That is why we are taking action together on November 25. Because whoever breaks down public services, breaks our society. And we will not let that happen!
What are the demands?
- Accessible, affordable and high-performance public services.
- Fair pay, sufficient staff and resources, and good working conditions.
- Sustainable investments and a dignified pension.
Practical appointments for this day
ACOD UGent is also calling for work to stop on Tuesday 25 November.
From 7.30 am, the three Ghent University trade unions will be on picket line at the rectorate. All Ghent University staff and sympathizers are very welcome! We will provide a hot coffee and some breakfast, and also take the opportunity to talk together about the further cuts that will come to higher education, and about how we can resist this together.
At 10 a.m. we then leave together for the concentration of the joint trade union front on St. Peter's Square in Ghent. A number of speeches will be held there, after which we will join the demonstration of the colleagues of the Ghent city staff at 11 am. Together we will have a march through Ghent towards the town hall, to make our voices heard loud and clear.
General National Strike on Wednesday, November 26, 2025

The demands are clear:
- Stop attacking the index in any form
- Abolish the pension malus
- Introduce a tax on large fortunes and technology giants
- Stop the unconditional subsidies to large companies
- Have everyone contribute fairly, including management companies
